METHOD FOR THE FORMATION OF SALT-TOLERANT GENOTYPES OF PLANTS IN EARLY DEVELOPMENT PHASES, ESPECIALLY IN TOMATOES

The method is used in the field of tomato selection, grown on salty soil. It allows creating salt-tolerant tomato varieties and lines without using a provocative background. The method is easily implemented and guarantees high efficiency of the selection process. It includes a selection of a single salt-sensitive and one salt-tolerant line, hybridisation between then and subsequent back-crossing selection of the salt-tolerant line and after selection in the F2 selected plants, they are led to homozygotic state in F6 or F7 following the SSD method or any classical selection method. The mother line is chosen to be homozygotic in any of two mutant recessive genes, connected with the pigmentation of the tomato plants, while in F2 and other degenerating generations, only plants, homozygotic in any of the corresponding marker-genes, are selected. Their presence enhances the self-tolerance of the corresponding genotype.
