<p>An antimicrobial moisturizing composition includes benzethonium chloride or benzalkonium chloride, a non-benzyl cationic surfactant, and an aqueous carrier. The composition of the present invention provides a significant and unexpected reduction of irritation, inflammation, dryness and/or redness, all issues associated with known alcohol- based skin disinfectants. In particular, the present invention provides a stable, aesthetically- pleasing, long-lasting, and moisturizing antimicrobial composition that is substantially free of ethanol, polysorbates, and anionic compounds that are known to inhibit the activity of benzethonium chloride or benzalkonium chloride.</p> |
