摘要 An ambulatory infusion device (1) comprises a replaceable energy storage (10) for electrically powering its functional units (14, 14'). Control units (13, 13', 13") provide to a monitoring system (12) data about energy consuming activities or consumed energy by the functional units (14, 14'). Based on this data, the monitoring system (12) determines energy or charge consumed by the functional units (14, 14') and triggers measurement of the voltage of the energy storage (10) at a point in time which depends on the determined energy or charge consumed in a time interval preceding the point in time. Adapting the time of measurement to the actual energy or charge drawn from the energy storage (10) makes it possible to detect reliably and early a low energy state of any conventional standard battery, regardless of its electrochemical design and electrical behavior.
