<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ballast pump drawing and pumping out ballast water that has low-pressure loss and a high process effect. <P>SOLUTION: The ballast pump 1 includes an impeller 8 inside a casing 7, and a rotation of the impeller 8 by an electric motor 9 causes seawater sucked in the casing 7 to be pushed. In addition, a photocatalyst 6 is carried on a surface of the impeller 8, and active oxygen species is produced by ultraviolet rays emitted from an ultraviolet ray source 10 included in the casing 7. According to such a structure, a microorganism or plankton are included in the sucked seawater, an organic matter that constitutes of a surface of them by the action of the active oxygen species is subjected to oxidative decomposition when the microorganism or the plankton comes into contact with a rotating impeller surface, and thereby the microorganism or the plankton is sterilized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
