<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp lighting device which does not require a special discharge lamp lighting wire, and which is capable of starting the lighting of a lamp without temporarily cutting off power when replacing an end-of-life lamp with a new one. <P>SOLUTION: A discharge lamp lighting device comprises: a DC power supply; a lighting circuit which turns on a discharge lamp with a current flowing from the DC power supply; a high-frequency conversion circuit which repeatedly changes a flow direction of the current from the DC power supply and flows the current to the lighting circuit; and a lamp end-of-life detection circuit which detects the end of service life of the discharge lamp. The discharge lamp lighting device incorporates a resistor connected in parallel to a resonance capacitor on a non-power supply side of an electrode in a fluorescent lamp so that, when an end-of-life lamp is replaced with a new one, the lamp mounting state is detected, causing the high-frequency conversion circuit to oscillate for turning on the lamp only if a normal lamp is attached. After the lamp is turned on, the discharge lamp lighting device is turned into a state of standing by for the detection of end-of-life lamp. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
