Electric water heater with simplified phase conversion apparatus

Provided is an electric water heater (10) with a simplified phase electrical conversion apparatus (18) including a terminal structure (34) having replaceable line lug portions (52) which are wired to a single phase row of multi-pin connector sockets by single phase routing circuitry (42), and to a three phase row of multi-pin connector sockets by three phase routing circuitry (42). Electrical supply wires (22, 24) from set of fuse holders (20) connect to multiple thermostat/heating element sets (13, 16) are grouped and connected to associated multi-pin connector plugs (50). To ready the water heater for single phase operation, the plugs (50) are connected to the single phase row of sockets, and to convert the water heater to three phase operation the plugs (50) are disconnected from the single phase sockets and connected to the three phase sockets.
