<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airbag apparatus for a side window smoothly preventing an occupant from moving toward the outside even when the volume of the inflatable part of a window shielding section is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: In the airbag apparatus S for a side window, an airbag 21 is provided with a window shielding section 35, which has a preventing element PE that prevents an occupant C from moving toward the outside via a window W3 during a rollover of a vehicle V and covers the inside of the window W3 between front and rear pillar sections P2, RP. The preventing element PE includes mounting portions 29D, 29B located near upper portions of front and rear pillars, a pillar side inflatable part 38B, a supporting inflatable part 43B, a preventing inflatable part 48B, and a thin panel part 53B. The thin panel part 53 includes a catching point HP of the occupant during a rollover of the vehicle.
