PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating height measurement method for a thin-film magnetic head by which the floating height of the thin-film magnetic head can be measured without using a new constituent contrary to requisition of low price and miniaturization. SOLUTION: The floating height measurement method for the thin-film magnetic head is provided by which the floating height of the thin-film magnetic head is measured in such a manner that the thin-film magnetic head furnished with a read-out head element for sensing a signal magnetic field from the magnetic disk is temporarily brought into contact with the rotating magnetic disk and outputs from the read-out head element at the contact and at the floating are measured.
