PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a method for driving the same are provided to optimize the power consumption by the external light environment. CONSTITUTION: A backlight unit(110) comprises light source. A liquid crystal panel(160) is located on the backlight unit. A variable mirror(180) is located between the backlight unit and the liquid crystal panel. According to the electric signal, the variable mirror transmits or reflects the light from the backlight unit. A detection unit detects the illuminance of outside. The detection unit applies the signal to the variable mirror and the backlight unit.
