The device has a detector (1) i.e. photodetector, for detecting an object in a danger area and assigning an object type to the detected object. An evaluation unit (2) assigns a signal type to the object type, and an acoustic signal transmitter (3) produces an acoustic signal i.e. ultrasonic signal, based on the signal type, where intensity or time duration of the signal is determined based on the object type of the detected object. The detector is automatically activated by an approaching train and deactivated by a departing train. The signal is emitted with different intensities.
