The invention relates to a modular container system for creating cuboid modular units for living or working purposes, which are arranged next to and on top of each other. In order to enable cost-effective warehousing, easy transportation, fast assembly, and a flexible and variable installation, it is proposed that a modular unit comprises the following: a) a floor (1) or ceiling element (2) serving as the lower base, comprising connector parts (3) for detachably fastening two mutually opposing face wall elements (4), b) two face wall elements (4) comprising connector parts (3′) for the detachable fastening to the lower floor (1) or ceiling element (2) and comprising connector parts (3″) for detachably fastening an upper ceiling (2) or roof element (7), and connector parts (203) for the connection to side wall elements (5, 6, 105, 106), c) two side wall elements (5, 6, 105, 106) comprising connector parts (103) for the connection to the face wall elements (4), d) and a ceiling (2) or roof element (7) serving as an upper covering, comprising connector parts (3) for the detachable fastening to the face wall elements (4).
