In the process for the production of microporous rubber of the parent Specifications, the latex is thickened by the addition of salts other than soaps having monovalent cations, such as sodium chloride, or sodium salicylate. The presence of small quantities of soap, e.g. used in the production of a concentrated latex, is not objectionable. In an example, 10 c.cm. of 15 per cent sodium chloride solution are added to 100 c.cm. of a latex concentrated as in Specification 213,886, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], and containing 60 per cent rubber, 15 per cent sulphur, and 2 per cent "agerite" (phenyl b naphthylamine). The latex thickens and is spread and coagulated, e.g. by hydrochloric acid or sulphur dioxide, and is vulcanized by the process of the main patent. |
