The device has fingerprint sensor (2) that includes a sensing element and a support surface on which finger of user is placed. The measurement values are calculated using signal from fingerprint sensor, and are compared with stored reference patterns to recognize the fingerprint of user. A covering is attached to fingerprint sensor. An independent claim is included for fingerprint identification method.
