PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for preparing a 2-(n-alkyl)-3-(4-hydroxybenzoyl)benzofuran and an intermediate thereof for carrying out the method.

SOLUTION: There is provided the method for preparing the 2-(n-alkyl)-3-(4-hydroxybenzoyl)benzofuran expressed by formula (I), wherein R represents a 1-5C straight chain or branched alkyl; R1 represents a 1-3C linear or branched alkyl, a 1-3C linear or branched alkoxy, a halogen atom or nitro; and the method for preparing intermediates thereof.
