<p>A device 10 for applying particulate material onto a surface of a mould is comprises a container 12 for holding particulate material 30 and defining an opening 18, preferably an elongate slot, for releasing the material. A closure device 20, preferably a planar member which can slide across the opening, is operable to open and close the opening 18. A levelling member 24 projects from the container 12 adjacent to the opening 18 and levels the surface of the material dispensed as the device is moved across the mould. The levelling member 24 may be shorter than the length of the opening 18 so that the opening extends beyond each end of member 24. In this way, an even layer of particulate material can be dispensed in one pass covering the bass of a mould cavity and opposed side walls of the cavity. The closure 20 and the member 24 may have respective locks to hold them at a plurality of different positions. A recess and projection arrangement may guide the device relative to the mould whilst it is driven across the surface of the mould.</p> |
