<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a continuous photographing speed when obtaining still images of a plurality of frames under a continuous photographing mode. <P>SOLUTION: During a photographing operation sequence under a continuous photographing mode, on a condition where a continuous photographing speed is a desired speed, a signal readout time t2' is determined which is a time assignable for reading an image signal from an imaging device. When reading an image signal from the imaging device on the basis of the signal readout time t2', it is determined whether to read the image signal under a first readout mode for reading image signals from all pixels or to read the image signal under a second readout mode for reading image signals as many as the number of readout pixels less than the number of pixels to be read out in the first readout mode through thinning readout processing, pixel adding readout processing or segmenting readout processing.
