<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine translation apparatus that can translate with high accuracy even when there is an ambiguity that is not always expressed in an original sentence written by a first language and that needs implicit knowledge for the interpretation. <P>SOLUTION: According to a machine translation apparatus in one embodiment, ambiguous part detection means detect an ambiguous part in which information that is not indicated in a document written by a first language, to be translated and that is needed for the translated sentences written by a second language, obtained by a document analysis translating means is missing. Means for creating a question sentence create a question sentence for a user to obtain the information that is needed for the translated sentences written by the second language per ambiguous parts. Means for giving the question sentence give the question sentence to the corresponding part of the original sentence written by the first language, and order a display device to display the original sentence written by the first language and the question sentence.
