The invention relates to an underwater drive unit for offshore use, comprising a drive module having an electric motor in a drive housing, at least one converter module having power and control electronics arranged in a pressure housing for converting direct current into alternating current for the electric motor, wherein the interior of the pressure housing is pressure-free and the interior of the drive housing is substantially pressurized at the particular ambient pressure, and wherein power semiconductors of the converter module are thermally coupled to the inner wall of the pressure housing by means of thermal conduction elements in order to dissipate lost heat. The invention further relates to an underwater motor system having an underwater drive unit according to the invention, wherein the underwater drive unit, namely the one or more converter(s), is/are connected to a land- or sea-supported direct-current converter unit by means of a high-voltage direct-current transmission line for transmitting electrical power. |
