A restaurant signalling device 30 comprises a body 32 having at least two support surfaces 34, 36 which may be placed selectively on a restaurant table to support the device in two different orientations. The support surfaces are arranged on the body so that, when a first one of the support surfaces 34 is placed on a restaurant table, a first visible signal element 46, formed, for example, by a coloured region on the body 32, is uppermost and can be seen and understood by a waiter to indicate that his attention is not required. When the second one of the support surfaces 36 is placed on the table, a second visible signal element 44, e.g. provided by a differently coloured region on the body, is uppermost to signal to the waiter service is required. The body of the device may be adapted to act as a menu holder for displaying the menu. As an alternative to colored regions, letters or words may be used or the visible signal elements may be different shapes. The device may include a weight, e.g. sand, which moves relative to the body to improve the stability of the device.
