PURPOSE: An IP(Internet Protocol) telephone system and method thereof are provided to prevent the occurrence of traffic by connecting a terminal to an IP telephone. CONSTITUTION: A terminal grasps the line state of an IP telephone connected to other terminals within other subnet(S1). The terminal updates the line state information of the IP telephone within a phonebook list(S2). The terminal transmits the updated line state information to other terminals(S3). The system performance of the IP telephone connected to the terminal of other subnet is lower than the system performance of the IP telephone connected to the terminal of the subnet.
