<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording medium suitable for a single recording system and a magnetic disk unit. <P>SOLUTION: A perpendicular magnetic recording medium is a perpendicular magnetic recording medium for single recording systems. A laminated film containing a soft magnetism layer 13 and a main recording layer 16 is formed on a substrate 11.
