<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for an element enabling an element to be obtained, the element being excellent in fatigue resistance, especially being improved in fatigue resistance in the range from low to intermediate cycles and excellent in wear resistance even in the case insoluble carbide amount is reduced, by being subjected to predetermined quenching/tempering treatment. <P>SOLUTION: The steel for the element of a belt-type CVT (continuously variable transmission) includes at least C, Si, Mn and Cr, and has an element composition satisfying an expression of 10.8[C]+5.6[Si]+2.7[Mn]+0.3[Cr]≤13 when a mass% of an element M is defined as [M]. The steel, as indispensable elements, includes by mass: 0.50-0.70% C; 0.10-0.60% Si; 0.50-1.50% Mn; and 0.20-1.00% Cr. The steel further includes: Fe as the remainder which may contain, as optional additive elements, ≤0.025 mass% P and ≤0.015 mass% S; and inevitable impurities. The steel obtains a hardness of 88 HRB or less by being subjected to softening heat treatment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
