A high safety cathode active material having large capacity, suppressing deterioration in storage at high temperature, and ensuring thermal stability in a charged state is provided. A cathode active material represented by a composition formula of LixNiaMnbCocM1dM2eO2 where M1 is at least one or more kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of Al, Ti, and Mg; M2 is at least one or more kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of Mo, W, and Nb; 0.2≰x≰1.2; 0.6≰a≰0.8; 0.05≰b≰0.3; 0.05≰c≰0.3; 0.02≰d≰0.04; 0.02≰e≰0.06; and a+b+c+d+e=1.0 is used.
