Method for operating a rotating tower crane

The method involves winding a lifting rope (11) on a hoisting winch (10), where length of the lifting rope is larger than length that is necessary for normal operation of the crane. The lifting rope is guided via an auxiliary deflection unit to unwind a lifting rope area that is wounded, during normal operation. Lifting operation is implemented via the lifting rope, and the auxiliary deflection unit is arranged at a crane structure. The deflection unit is rotated together with a cross beam (4). Deflection rollers (8, 9) are detachably fixed at a fixation point (13) at the crane structure.
