Disclosed is a wheelchair (1) including a modular wheel assembly (200) adaptable to the wheelchair for easily transferring a wheelchair bound person laterally. The modular wheel assembly comprises a linear guide assembly that is remove-ably disposed onto a frame of the wheelchair, a slide-able wheel assembly, and a quick release locator. The linear guide assembly includes a back-plate, a pair of linear guide rods, a pair of linear guide holding blocks and means for securing the linear guide assembly to the frame.
