A process maximizes the carbon dioxide concentration in a CO2 gas separator forming part of a gas turbine electricity generation set. Air is introduced to a first-stage compressor, mixed with fuel in a combustion chamber to produce expanding hot gases that are surrendered to a turbine wheel for electricity generation. Some hot gas is returned to the compressor and is admixed with incoming air. Carbon dioxide is introduced to the incoming compressed gases via a CO2 separator upstream from the combustion chamber. Not more than about 70 per cent of the carbon dioxide contained in the compressed gases (3, 3a, 3b, 5, 7a, 7b) is removed from the compressed gas. The entire flow of compressed gas passes through the CO2 separator, where between 10 and 70 per cent of the carbon dioxide is removed. Following its use for electricity generation, the expanded hot exhaust gases pass through a heat exchanger to generate steam. An independent claim is included for a gas turbine electricity generating set used in the above method. |
