[Class 140] Curved compound sheet material of the kind having a thick soft core 2 of low density between two thin harder skins, 1, 6 of higher density is made by adhering the outer skin 1 to the core 2 whilst in flat condition, superimposing the other skin 6 on the opposite surface of the core with an intermediate adhesive layer, bending the material in a press 4, 5 and removing the product after the adhesive has set. The skins may be of plywood, veneer, sheet metal or synthetic resin or other plastic while the core may be of expanded rubber. The inner skin 6 may be curved prior to its application. A spruce or other spacing member 3 may be embedded in the core. The adhesive used is preferably a thermohardening resin.</p> |
