<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phrase data retrieval device and program for utilizing for music composition and arrangement without lowering beat sense that phrase data have, by taking shift from bar lines or beat positions of the phrase data into consideration when retrieving phrases. <P>SOLUTION: In the phrase data retrieval system (a beating sense reproducing system), a plurality of phrase data Pr: Pr1, Pr2, ... extracted from original music piece data Mr are prepared in phrase storage part PB in advance. When an edition range is set for a target music piece data Ms, specified shift information Gs is generated that represents a shift against a reference timing of a note expected position which will be the start point of the edition range (B). Phrase data Pr is sequentially read from the phrase storage part PB.
