TEST FOR FERRETING OUT SELF-TRANSFUSION IN PERFORMANCE SPORTSMEN

The present invention relates to the achievement of a test for ferreting out self-transfusion in performance sportsmen, being useful for ferreting the practice of doping by autologous transfusion. The test is based on the determination of the viability of erythrocytes sampled from performance sportsmen, said erythrocytes being subjected to an external stress which will amplify the "storage lesions" occurred in the preserved red cells before the self- transfusion, according to the "stress on stress" principle and which have, in consequence, a highly diminished viability, leading to the occurrence of two sub-populations on the viability histogram.
