<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereo-image-data transmitting apparatus, a stereo-image-data transmitting method, a stereo-image-data receiving apparatus, and a stereo-image-data receiving method that cause a content supplier to have flexibility of transmission of parallax information. <P>SOLUTION: Identification information identifying transmission or no transmission of parallax information is inserted in a transport stream TS. For example, a new stereoscopic descriptor is defined and inserted at a position under an event information table. The stereoscopic descriptor includes identification information identifying transmission or no transmission of parallax information in units of programs. For example, a new parallax information link descriptor is defined and inserted at a position under the event information table. The parallax information link descriptor includes identification information identifying transmission or no transmission of multipurpose parallax information. The parallax link descriptor includes identification information identifying transmission or no transmission of particular use parallax information. The presence of the above types of the identification information enables selective transmission of parallax information such as parallax information in units of programs, multipurpose parallax information, parallax information for particular superimposition information.
