<p>Methods and compositions are provided for the treatment of disorders characterized by the presence of abnormally viscous and/or cohesive bodily secretion, such as mucus and sputum. Disorders that can be effectively treated using the disclosed compositions methods include cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, bronchitis, and viral, fungal and bacterial infections that affect the lungs (such as influenza). The compositions, which contain an effective amount of sodium citrate, may be administered alone or in combination with one or more known therapeutic agents.</p> |
