<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solenoid which can optionally control the position of a movable magnetic pole and which has a structure that can obtain a control stroke region of relatively bigger thrust than previous structures. <P>SOLUTION: A salient 22 is provided in a movable magnetic pole 20 of a solenoid 10, and a concavity part 23 is provided in a fixed magnetic pole 40, trying to restrain the thrust which rapidly increases as the movable magnetic pole 20 approaches the fixed magnetic pole 40 because of the current of magnetic flux operated in the direction in which a shaft 83 progresses, namely the direction which is orthogonal to the operation direction of the thrust or the direction approximate to the orthogonal direction, namely because of the current of magnetic flux generating force which hardly or never contributes to the thrust.
