The method involves determining controlling parameters of web tension controller (3). The controlling parameters of a web tension controller is determined according to a characteristic line on the basis of a running length of a material web between an afferent terminal point (10) and an efferent terminal point (30). The characteristic line is specified as function or at reference points.
