The device has a platform (5) at which a lower jaw model (UM) of a patient is arranged. A support (10) retains an upper jaw model (OM) of the patient for arranging the upper jaw model in a defined position relative to the lower jaw model. A positioning device (4) changes a position of the platform based on control data produced by a controlling or evaluating device such that the platform and the lower jaw model are movable in the defined position relative to the upper jaw model by movement of the positioning device computed by the controlling or evaluating device. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a rail or prosthesis.
