The lock actuator has an electrical control means for controlling the operational condition of the actuator when the actuator is operational to retract a lock bolt when in an active condition and inoperative when in an inactive condition. A rotor is rotatable relative to a stator to retract the bolt. Biasing is provided, typically as magnets, so that the rotor adopts one of preferred rotational positions relative to the stator when the actuator is in an inactive condition.
