A personal card has i) an electrical contact (1) suitable for receiving power from an external source to enable operation of the card; ii) memory suitable for storing biometric data corresponding to an authorised card user; iii) a fingerprint scanner (2) suitable for scanning a fingerprint of an actual card user for capturing biometric data corresponding the scan and iv) processing means (CPU) suitable for use in comparing the biometric data obtained by the scan with the biometric data corresponding to the authorised user for determining whether the actual card user is the authorised user. The card is formed such that the processing means comprises two processors. The first of the processors is associated with the electrical contact and the second of the processors is associated with the fingerprint scanner. The two processors are connected to one another by way of a BUS. The card is further formed such that the biometric data corresponding to the authorised user is stored in the memory so that it is unreadable from the exterior of the card.
