PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent thermal transfer omission in a multicolor thermal transfer printer.SOLUTION: In the multicolor thermal printer, each of a second thermal transfer unit and its subsequent thermal transfer units from the upstream side includes: an image data acquisition means 101 acquiring thermal transfer image data and upstream side image data which is image data of the other thermal transfer units on the upstream side; a contour region extraction means 103 extracting a contour region of an overlapped region of images indicated by the upstream side image data and images indicated by the thermal transfer image data; and an optimal heat quantity setting means 104 setting optimal heat quantity which is optimal heat quantity applied to an ink ribbon in the contour region based on the contour region.
