PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for allowing a user to easily input his or her desired character on the basis of the operation of a direction key.SOLUTION: The electronic device is provided with: an operation part having a plurality of direction specifying means for inputting and displaying characters by designating different directions, and a determination means which is different from the direction specifying means; a display part for displaying a first area for displaying characters selectable as characters to be input, a second area for displaying conversion candidates or prediction candidates of the input and displayed characters, and a third area which is adjacent to the first area and the second area; and a control part for selecting the third area when there is no character to be displayed in the direction designated by the operation of the direction specifying means while the characters displayed in the first area are selected. When the determination means is operated while the third area is selected, the second area or the conversion candidates or prediction candidates displayed in the second area are selected. When the direction specifying means is operated, the first area or the characters displayed in the first area are selected by the control part. |
