Class 72 A quenching apparatus comprises an annular rotatable part carried by a stationary part and connections for supplying quenching fluid to the space enclosed by said parts, the rotatable part having orfices through which quenching fluid may be directed on to a workpiece which may surround or be surrounded by the rotatable part. As shown, an outer stationary part 10 has a connection 18 for water and an annular base ring 11 with a bearing groove 16. An inner rotary part 20 has its lower end shaped to bear in the groove 16 and has vanes 22 extending into the space between the inner and outer parts and orifices 23 arranged adjacent the vanes. An annular ring 12 having a bearing groove 17 co-operating with the upper edge of the rotary part is screwed to the upper edge of the stationary part. Water under pressure entering the enclosed space between the parts causes the inner part to rotate and is projected through the orifices against a workpiece.</p> |
