PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element with high display quality, a method of manufacturing the liquid crystal display element and a method of driving the same.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element includes: a first substrate having a first electrode and subjected to alignment processing; a second substrate disposed parallel and opposite to the first substrate, provided with a second electrode, and subjected to alignment processing; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, containing chiral agent, and twist-aligned. In the case where the liquid crystal layer does not contain the chiral agent, when the turning direction of twisting the liquid crystal molecule is taken as a first turning direction, the chiral agent imparts turning performance to a second turning direction opposite to the first turning direction to the liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer, and the first substrate and the second substrate are subjected to alignment processing to exhibit a pre-tilt angle ranging from 20° to 45°. An electric field in the direction of thickness of the liquid crystal layer can be generated in the liquid crystal layer by applying voltage to the first electrode and the second electrode, and at least one of the first substrate and the second subtrate includes an electrode formed to generate an electric field in the direction orthogonal to the direction of thickness of the liquid crystal layer by appling voltage. |
