<p>A structure for a joint at a side section of a vehicle, reducing the weight of the vehicle body and, irrespective of the configuration of a pillar and a rocker, effectively minimizing the vibration and deformation of the pillar. A pillar reinforcement member (50) is joined to the inside of a skirt section (48) of a pillar outer member (44) having an open cross-sectional shape open on the inner side in the widthwise direction of the vehicle. A front closed cross-section is formed at the front of the skirt section (48) relative to the vehicle by the following four surfaces: an outer wall surface (44A) of the pillar outer member (44), the outer wall surface (44A) facing outward of the vehicle in the widthwise direction thereof; a front wall surface (44B) facing forward of the vehicle; a front partition wall (50A); and a triangular front partition wall (50E). Also, a rear closed cross-section is formed at the rear of the skirt section (48) relative to the vehicle by the following four surfaces: the outer wall surface (44A) facing outward of the vehicle in the widthwise direction thereof; a rear partition wall (50B), a triangular rear partition wall (50F); and a rear wall surface (44C) facing rearward of the vehicle. As a result of the configuration, when an external force is applied to the pillar outer member (44), the cross-section of the skirt section (48), which is curved in a side view of the pillar outer member (44), is prevented from collapsing.</p> |
