A method of processing a service request in a multichannel network providing services to a plurality of user stations. The network comprises at least one services station, at least one buffering server, and at least one multiplexing station connected to the user stations. The services are provided from at least one of the services stations to the user stations via a first path between the services station and one of the multiplexing stations, and a second path between the multiplexing station and one of the user stations. Data is buffered for one or more of the services provided by the network in one or more of the buffering servers. A service request is received from one of the user stations requesting a new service. The service request is examined and transmission capacity required to execute the new service is identified, and the availability of transmission capacity over the first path and the second path is determined. The identified required transmission capacity is compared with the determined available transmission capacity. If the comparison indicates sufficient available transmission capacity, at least a portion of buffered data for the requested service and/or at least a portion of the requested service is sent to the user station over the first path and the second path.
