The device has a U-shaped auxiliary measuring device (1) comprising a unit positively connected with a trailer coupling of a vehicle. The unit allows contactless determination of a coordinate system of the vehicle and allows coupling to the coordinate system of the vehicle relative to measuring a position of the trailer. The auxiliary measuring device comprises two legs (2) that are arranged circular in contour malice (3), where contour malice is formed by measuring points at ends of the auxiliary measuring device. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring landing gear geometry of a car with a trailer coupling.
