Disclosed is a method for distinguishing base sequences accompanying competitive hybridization, specifically a method for being able to distinguish nucleic acids having a target base sequence in a time much shorter than conventional methods while maintaining precision in discriminating differences in basic sequences. This method for distinguishing target base sequences comprises a thermal denaturing step that thermally denatures a sample 2-chain nucleic acid and a standard 2-chain nucleic acid containing the same base sequence in a single reaction liquid, a temperature reduction step for carrying out competitive hybridization in the sample 2-chain nucleic acid and standard 2-chain nucleic acid after that thermal denaturing step by reducing the temperature in that reaction liquid, a measurement step for measuring the 2-chain nucleic acid formed by the nucleic acid chain constituting the standard 2-chain nucleic acid and nucleic acid chain constituting the sample 2-chain nucleic acid, and a discrimination step that determines the identity in the standard 2-chain nucleic acid and the sample 2-chain nucleic acid. The temperature reduction step is carried out in the presence of a cationic comb polymer. |
