PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate release of an engagement element, by decelerating a vehicle when the engagement element in an interlock state is released.SOLUTION: A control device for an automatic transmission switching gear shift stages by selectively engaging a plurality of friction engagement elements by hydraulic pressure. The control device includes: an interlock detector (S1) detecting the interlock state of the engagement element that is engaged out of the friction engagement elements; a vehicle state detector (S3) detecting a vehicle speed; and a torque down controller (S5) determining the vehicle speed detected by the vehicle state detector when the interlock detector detects the interlock state, and bringing down engine torque when the vehicle speed is a specified vehicle speed or lower.
