The machine i.e. mower (1), has an operating assembly (7) bringable from a lowered operating position to a raised foreland and/or transport position by an excavation cylinder (12). An impact protection device (15) exhibits an impact protection cylinder (16) for holding the assembly in the operating position and/or locking movement in an avoiding position during obstacle-free normal operation. An accumulator is coupled with the impact cylinder in such a manner that the impact cylinder is prestressed with pressure from the accumulator into the locking position that locks the protection device.
