The microtome (10) has a sample support (14) comprising a sample receiver for insertion of a sample (16). A Peltier element is directly arranged in the sample receiver, and a refrigerant flat side of the Peltier element directly faces toward the sample receiver. A side of the sample facing toward the Peltier element overlaps with the refrigerant flat side of the Peltier element when the sample is inserted into the sample receiver, so that the side of the sample facing toward the Peltier element is directly cooled by the refrigerant flat side of the Peltier element.
