PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive method for detecting an installation abnormality of a tool holder and a machine tool, superior in maintainability and simplicity of operation. SOLUTION: Displacement of the outer periphery of a tool holder 3 is measured by a displacement detector 5, and a measured value is received to an AD converter 9 of CNC 7 of a machining center 1 by an analog voltage value from the displacement detector 5. A set value of a tool T stored in PLC 10 and the received measured value are compared and determined, and a set image screen is displayed on a CRT image screen 12 of an operation panel 11 of the machining center 1, and the set value 18 inputted on the set image screen is registered in an inside memory 16 of the PLC 10, and various information are displayed on the set image screen. According to this method, since confirmation of the measured value and input of the set value are performed outside an easily operable machine by using the inexpensive displacement detector 5 and the AD converter 9, the set value is easily inputted by anybody without using an input part of the displacement detector 5.
