The choke (1) has a choke core (2), and a choke winding (3) wound around the choke core. The choke winding is divided into two windings (4, 5), where one of the windings is designed as a strand-like winding. Strand-wires are electrically insulated by the strand-like winding, where another winding is designed as a massive winding. The core is designed as U or E-shaped core with an air gap and made from ground material e.g. sintered powder. The latter winding has a wire with a rectangular cross-section, where the windings are connected in parallel. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a choke.
