<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the NO<SB>x</SB>cleaning capability of a Pd catalyst by using a Zr-type composite oxide, in a transitional period such as an acceleration/deceleration period of an automobile wherein the exhaust gas atmosphere changes in a short time. <P>SOLUTION: There is disclosed an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst including a catalyst layer 2 supported on a carrier 1. The catalyst layer 2 comprises a catalyst component where Pd is supported on a supporting member which is constituted of a Zr-type composite oxide comprising ZrO<SB>2</SB>as its main component and alkaline earth metal M and having a cubic crystal structure primarily derived from the ZrO<SB>2</SB>. The Zr-type composite oxide includes alkaline earth metal M and hence exhibits strong basicity, and thereby has a far superior capacity of adsorbing NO<SB>x</SB>in comparison with a supporting member devoid of the alkaline earth metal M. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
